Types of dies and inserts offered:

Steel dies and inserts with conventional bi-directional and uni-directional tooth forms:
  • general purpose application for commonly used grades of carbon steel Oilfield Country Tubular Goods (OCTG) and drillpipe, drill collars and accessories
  • tong dies with "diamond" style tooth form provides increased gripping for higher strength tubulars and drillpipe, drill collars and accessories
Steel dies and inserts with specialized tooth geometry made on request:
  • fine tooth or continuous tooth increases contact area to reduce penetration
  • alternate or skipped tooth reduces number of teeth to increase contact pressure

Grit Face* dies and inserts:

  • Used with all grades of Corrosion Resistant Alloy (CRA) stainless to provide minimal marking and protection against contamination by carbon steel inserts
  • Used with all types of OCTG especially high strength materials such as API Grade V-150 and 13% SuperChrome or HyperChrome that are difficult to effectively grip with standard inserts

Inserts with Grit Coated teeth:

  • Used in recovery applications where CRA tubulars are coated with thick layer of scale, asphaltines or similar materials which could foul standard Grit Face dies and inserts

Grit Face dies and inserts are produced using specially graded tungsten carbide particles and nickel/chrome brazing process to provide an extremely hard uniform surface to grip the highest strength carbon steel and CRA tubular goods.  The uniform gripping surface assures minimal marking with very shallow, randomly distributed pattern to avoid stress risers left by other gripping systems.  The materials used to produce Grit Face dies and inserts do not contain any free iron which might contaminate CRA tubulars and cause potential premature corrosion failures.

The tungsten carbide gripping media will provide a long service life as it is much harder than the strongest tubular goods being used in the oil patch today.  Like conventional inserts, the key to exceptional performance and long service life of Grit Face dies and inserts requires these inserts be periodically cleaned during the job using high pressure water blast, wire brush, safety solvents or similar means.
